E-visa and Visa Policy Reform: A Strategic Transition for Vietnam

In order to promote tourism and attract international investment, Vietnam has implemented this change as part of its larger strategic efforts.

With the extension of e-visa validity, it has become more convenient for tourists to experience and explore the country, which is expected to increase. Additionally, it will create favorable conditions for the appearance of skilled workers and experts contributing to Vietnam’s economy.

Alongside the extension of e-visa, the National Assembly has allowed for multiple-entry visas. Legislators predict that this will reduce administrative workload and save time and finances for both the government and applicants.

Vietnam Encourages Prolonged Stay

Approved modifications also extend the visa-free stay period for tourists from specific countries to 45 days, triple the previous limit.

Citizens from certain Western European countries, Japan, and South Korea, who contribute significantly to Vietnam’s tourism market, are currently allowed to stay visa-free for 15 days. This new policy aims to attract more tourists from these countries and prolong their stay in Vietnam, thereby boosting tourism revenue and facilitating cultural exchange.

The extension of the validity of e-visa and allowing multiple entries has been warmly welcomed by the tourism industry and businesses in Vietnam. These modifications will make the country more attractive to foreign investors and play a crucial role in economic recovery, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam currently provides e-visa for citizens of around 80 countries and territories and grants visa exemptions for citizens of 25 countries, mainly within a duration of 15 to 30 days. This policy is considered less liberal than neighboring countries. The introduction of a 90-day e-visa policy is predicted to enhance Vietnam’s competitiveness in the region and attract a larger number of tourists and investors.

It is important to note that the procedures for applying for e-visa to Vietnam remain the same. Applicants are still required to provide:

  • Their passport details;
  • A recent passport-size photo;
  • Make necessary fee payments online. ;

The e-visa is then sent to the applicant via email.
